This Time Next Year We’ll Be Millionaires

 

This is the classic line from the absolutely brilliant British sitcom Only Fools and Horses, which starred David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst as Del and Rodney Trotter. In this long running, highly successful series, Del was a typical wheeler dealer who had aspirations of a better life full of the spoils of riches.

Through his company, Trotters Independent Traders (TIT), his countless money making schemes were always a total flop. He would purchase low priced goods (quite often off the back of a lorry) in the hope of making huge profits, but the goods always turned out to be of extreme inferior quality. He was lucky if they broke even. His get rich quick mentality got in him trouble with the law on several occasions and I doubt if he ever kept proper accounting records. But in the end he did become a millionaire. Although the source of his sudden riches was not a direct result of his hair-brained schemes, it was an indirect result of his entrepreneurial mentality. You see, he had bought the contents of a house clearance and within the items he had purchase was an extremely rare pocket watch worth millions.

The world is full of wheeler dealers. Some of them know no better and I suspect many of them don’t have any great aspirations to become rich. Perhaps they would consider it a pleasant thought but their day-to-day lives are consumed by their wheeling and dealings. Then there are those that are in it through no fault of their own. Arguably they don’t belong in the wheeler dealer group. They will do whatever they can to self promote themselves and make their way up the ranks and eventually join the wealthy group. I have a lot of respect for those who find themselves on this rung of the ladder because they have the right mentality.

It is important to have the right mindset and to develop that mindset because without it you won’t grow as a person. You won’t grow your ideas, you won’t get the best out of your money making schemes, and you will never become wealthy (financially). I applaud the “this time next year we’ll be millionaires†ideology. Not only does it offer hope that next year will be better but it is also a conscious expression that you want it to be better next year. It is hope and desire to improve yourself and your life through increasing your financial wealth that drives us forward towards that goal. You, just like Del don’t have a business plan.

Set yourself a structured money making plan. Don’t waste your life chasing your tail jumping from one money making scheme to another. Get onboard with one programme and stick to it. Work hard at it with all your soul and passion, and who knows; this time next year . . .
