Only Fools and Horses Complete

Photo No.5 showing a bus in a crater in BALHAM HIGH STREET brings back memories to me. I lived in Balham when I was a very young boy in the 50s and can remember knowing about the bus ending-up in a large hole after a bombing raid.This photo brings back memories because I can see the railway bridge that crosses the road and Balham tube station where I often bought copies of the kids magazines Beano and Dandy to read( and for the “free” gifts )that were often placed inside them.This photo along the high street is also very close to the ABC cinema where I went on a Saturday morning with loads of other kids and paid sixpence to watch Roy Rogers and Trigger, Flash Gordon, and Laurel and Hardy who made you laugh your head-off ! On the right-hand side of the photo are shops, and in later years one became a clothing shop that was mentioned in the very popular comedy series on the BBC called “Only Fools and Horses”. The shop that Del Boy would sometimes mention was called Sol Brothers. |Just a small shop but it became famous due to the success of the comedy.Good old Balham! Often said to be the “Gateway to the South” Blakey on Anorak back in the 50s lived little more than a stones-throw from Balham tube. Great days and memories.

Same thing with having to bathe any male creature…you just wash it all. Part of staying clean.
